Why make BetterWorld free?

We started BetterWorld with a desire to build a business that would serve the common good. We imagined a platform of best-in-class fundraising tools with time-saving automation and an intuitive user experience – and we decided to make it free, so that individuals and organizations would never again be constrained by budget in their pursuit of doing good.

Our founding team has decades of collective experience in every role in the nonprofit world. We’ve served on boards and teams, consulted and advised, been donors and supporters, event attendees and hosts. We’re well familiar with both the pain points and frustrations, but also with the joy and satisfaction of doing meaningful, impactful work that changes people’s lives.

We have a passion for imagining new ways for businesses to do good. We live in a globalized time where capitalism is the most dominant force in human history – with speed and reach unlike any other institution ever. But capitalism is a means to an end. Is that end, the maximization of profit, making as much money as possible, or should it be directed toward other virtues? Could it be a force for good? If so, what would that look like? What would it mean for a business to be good? How would that business treat its employees, customers, and community? In many ways, these questions still animate our journey with BetterWorld.

We spent our early years building our platform, constantly iterating with feedback from our early partners and obsessing over every detail that would improve the experience of nonprofit leaders. Over the years, we’ve grown our team, platform, and reach – now with thousands of organizations joining BetterWorld each month. Our vision of ‘good business’ remains the same though. While we certainly aren’t perfect, we focus every day on improvement, and we’ll never stop trying to build a business that serves the common good.
