The trust, privacy, and security of donors is non-negotiable. Your personal and payment information is secure and encrypted, and will never be sold or shared with third-parties.

BetterWorld’s privacy policy reflects our commitment to doing good in the world. As such, protecting your privacy, and the privacy of all our users is of utmost importance. BetterWorld is a social venture on a mission to impact communities. Though this privacy policy errs on the side of legalese, you should know that every decision we make with the BetterWorld platform is oriented towards the good, towards seeking the flourishing of the local nonprofits, businesses, and individuals that trust BetterWorld.

The information we collect

Your personal information includes anything that is unique to you and can be used to identify or contact you.

All users are required to provide an email address, first name, last name, and password. For some services, such as bidding alerts, discussion or chat areas, you may be required to provide additional information including, gender, telephone number, cell phone number, carrier service provider, street address, city, state, zip code and country. This information is only used for the purposes of delivering those BetterWorld services to which you have opted-in.

If you register for any service that require payment we require financial information; the name on the credit card, credit card number, zip code, and expiration date.

BetterWorld does not collect information as you visit and navigate our website unless you provide that information voluntarily. And, we do not collect information posted in any discussion or chat areas on our site.

We ask that only individuals who are over the age of 18 register on our site. If we learn that we inadvertently have collected identifying personal information from an individual under the age of 18, we will promptly delete that information from our system.

How we use your personal information

To Manage your BetterWorld Experience

We use your personal information to manage your account and improve your experience with organizations on the BetterWorld platform. We also use this information to improve your experience with BetterWorld platform itself. For example, we may alert you to new features and announcements based on your interests. 

If you no longer wish to receive communications from BetterWorld, you may email us or click on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email sent to you by BetterWorld. Unsubscribing from our site does not delete the personal information from our system that may exist in backup or disaster-recovery files.

BetterWorld does not and will not sell your information to any third parties.

Anonymous, Aggregate Data for Research and Analytics

When you access BetterWorld our server automatically collects certain information that is not personally identifiable, such as your IP address, pages viewed, and length of time spent on the web site.

BetterWorld combines this information with data collected from other users to produce anonymous, aggregated statistical information. We collect and use demographic information in order to improve the products and services we offer, to conduct market research, to generate profiles and reports, and to improve the overall experience of our site. We also may share this anonymous, aggregated information— which does not identify individuals—with partners, advertisers or other third parties.

BetterWorld releases personal information when we believe it is appropriate to comply with laws; to apply our Terms of Use and other agreements; to protect the rights, property, or safety of BetterWorld, our users, or others.

Business Transfers

In the event that BetterWorld or its assets are acquired by another entity, BetterWorld may transfer your personal information without your prior notification or consent as one of the transferred business assets.

In the Course of Transacting the Business of Campaigns

When users provide email addresses during an auction, event, or other campaign, those email addresses remain entirely under the control of the organization holding the campaign. In the course of managing their fundraising campaign, the organization may access (1) the name, email and mailing address (and/or other contact information) of donors, and (2) the name, email, mailing address (and/or other contact information) of all bidders. 

When a user registers for the BetterWorld or participates in an auction that has elected to access BetterWorld, the user agrees to receive communications and other information regarding BetterWorld.

In addition to collecting information through the registration process, BetterWorld gathers information in the following ways:

Cookies

If you visit the BetterWorld website or BetterWorld-enabled websites, a cookie (a small piece of data) will be sent to your browser from a web server and stored on your computer's hard drive. BetterWorld sometimes uses cookies to track information for our users' convenience and to understand our customers better. At no time do we share information from cookies with third parties.

Cookies may be used on an aggregate basis to track site navigation. This information is not traceable to an individual user. The cookie feature can be turned off on your browser.

IP Addresses

An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer by your Internet service provider whenever you access the Internet. This number may be the same each time you access the Internet or it may change. Like other Internet sites, BetterWorld uses IP addresses to collect aggregate information about numbers of visitors and site usage. The address is logged on our server when your computer requests information from BetterWorld.

Groups and Public Forums

Chat areas and discussion boards are open to the public. Any information you include when participating in such public forums is available to anyone with Internet access. For example, if you include your email address in a message you post on a discussion board, it is publicly accessible.

Any information you disclose on the Internet or through the BetterWorld services (through e-mail, SMS or voice messages, message boards or chat groups) can be read by others. There is, therefore a risk that your personally identifying information can be collected by a third party, resulting in unsolicited e-mail messages or advertisements.

Public forums are monitored and BetterWorld reserves the right to remove any posts we feel are inappropriate, contain abusive language or threaten or violate the privacy of our company, sponsors or visitors.

Surveys and Polls

If you respond to any surveys or polls on our site, we may ask you for demographic information such as your gender or age. This information is collected only as anonymous, aggregated information and is used for statistical purposes. Otherwise, we do not collect or store your personal responses.

Security

BetterWorld utilizes generally-accepted security measures (such as encryption) to protect against the misuse or unauthorized disclosure of any Personal Information you submit to us. However, like other Internet sites, we cannot guarantee that it is completely secure from people who might attempt to evade security measures or intercept transmissions over the Internet.

BetterWorld encourages users to be proactive in not posting Personal Information in individual messages to other users or in groups, and recommends that all users choose a password of at least 8 characters in length and a mix of letters and numbers.

Unsubscribing or Turning Off Message Delivery

If you elect to no longer receive BetterWorld services, you may always opt-out by unsubscribing through email or by turning off messaging at any of the BetterWorld enabled websites. Additionally, users on most major carriers can reply "END" to any BetterWorld enabled message to opt-out of the program associated with that message. If users encounter difficulty, they can also write to support@betterworld.org.

Consent to privacy policy

By using BetterWorld enabled services, you consent to the collection and use of information about you in the ways described in this Privacy Policy.

BetterWorld reserves the right to update and amend this Privacy Policy from time to time to remain consistent with new products, services, processes, and Internet privacy legislation. We will post changes to the Privacy Policy on this page so that you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances we disclose it.

The amended Privacy Policy shall automatically be effective five (5) days after they are initially posted on the web site. Your continued use of the services after the effective date of any posted change constitutes your acceptance of the amended Privacy Policy as modified by the posted changes. For this reason, we encourage you to review this Privacy Policy whenever you use the services. The last date this Privacy Policy was revised is set forth below.
